Pre-Season festival at Old Grammarians

Sunday 22nd August saw Thorplands Ladies take part in a pre-season 11 a side festival against three other ladies teams at the Old Grammarians, Wellingborough.

In the blistering heat, Thorplands played three thirty minute matches against Kingsthorpe Ladies, Earls Barton Ladies and the 2009 festival winners AFC Trinity.

Their first match saw the Ladies face old rivals Kingsthorpe ladies, who with a young, fit team were a daunting prospect to play against. Despite a closely fought match Kingsthorpe Ladies pulled it out of the bag to win 1-0.

The second match of the day saw Thorplands play fierce competition AFC Trinty. Trinty were the previous years winners, but with this in mind Thorplands played a cracking match and were very unfortunate to eventually lose 2-0. When playing the talent of Trinty a 2-0 loss is no mean feat!

The last battle of the day was against Earls Barton Ladies, which saw Thorplands come back from the jaws of defeat to eventually draw 2-2.

The festival was also a poignant day for the Ladies team as it saw manager Jo collect the clubs FA Standard Chartered plaque.

Well done also to the 2010 winners of the tournament, AFC Trinity who get to retain their trophy from 2009.

A fun day had by all and a great way to see the talent on show for the 2010/2011 season!
